Literacy promotion is vital to helping many school children especially those in the rural communities we serve perform so well and help them to be able to write for development

 Rural Smile Foundation, as part of its mission works to encourage as many students to write essays as that also goes to expose them to the power of reading books.

In this year’s essay writing competition and with sponsorship from EXPANDING BOUNDARIES INTERNATIONAL,  108 students from seven(7) schools from Ejura/Sekyedumase  took part in the preliminaries on the topic “AS THE OUTGOING SCHOOL PREFECT , WRITE A SPEECH YOU WOULD GIVE AT YOUR SCHOOL’S 20TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION STATING THE CHALLENGES OF THE SCHOOL AS WELL AS SOME OF THE SUCCESSES OF THE SCHOOL OVER THE YEARS “ .

At the end of the preliminaries, 21 students qualified to participate in the finals which was held at the Ejura Community Library on 23/11/2022 on the topic “THERE HAS BEEN A FOCUS ON VOCATIONAL AND TECHNICAL SKILLS TRAINING BY THE GOVERNMENT OF GHANA. IN NOT MORE THAN 250 WORDS, WRITE A LETTER TO YOUR FRIEND TELLING HIM/HER REASONS WHY YOU WILL ENROLL IN THE TECHNICAL SCHOOL INSTEAD OF THE TRADITIONAL SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL “.

The winner for this year’s competition, JIJIRI STELLA , who is 14years of age, is a female student at EJURA MODEL JUNIOR HIGH SCH. , whiles the first and second runner up , MISS  OPOKU LORDINA KOKURAH and MMASTER ACHEAMPONG  DESMOND DANKWAH  came from ST. ADELAIDE JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL respectively .

Speaking at the finals, NANA ODIASEMPA OBUGYEI II ( KROTIHENE, Ejura Traditional Council) admonished the students to take their studies seriously and do well in participating in such competitions as the world is changing rapidly and the need for quality education cannot be compromised . Mr. Baba Kasim (Deputy Director – supervision and Monitoring) who represented the District director of Education, applauded the initiative and stated how beneficial it has been since 2018 to the students in the district.

 Mr . Nana Yaw Amponsah Romeo, the head of the Essay Writing Competition made it known that , reading and writing are fundamental to learning .

He thanked our  media partners Naagyei FM ,90.3 and Todays FM for providing their platform for broadcasting as well as Ghana Education Service , Ejura/Sekyedumase and Ejura Community library for their collaboration .
